Fantasy Football Week 4: What I Learned

Updated: Oct 2, 2018

I know I know, little late to start this thread but hey it's better late than never. My 2018 fantasy campaign is off to a rocky start to say the least but every week I learn a few more things that will help me as we progress through this season as well as in seasons to come. Without further adieu, here are the top 4 things I learned from Week 4:

1. Never Draft Leonard Fournette

Okay out of college I knew this guy had some serious health concerns but when he is on the field, he is one of the most dynamic backs in the league. A true power runner as well as a formidable pass-catcher out of the backfield. As someone who hasn't had a true workhorse running back since 2016, I took a flier overlooking his injury ridden past. Well what a fucking mistake that was. This guy's hamstring is softer than a roll of Charmin and as weak as a Jew in a cage-fight. Week 1 he put up 8.5 points (PPR of course) in the first quarter and then promptly left the game claiming tightness in his hamstring. Fine, just get healthy and be back ready to go. After missing 2 games, Fournette finally makes his return and guess what, yep this fucker goes down in the first quarter again leaving my RB1 slot in the dust with a flashy 4.5 points. My number 1 draft pick, the center of my franchise, the heartbeat of my lineup has put up 13 points over 4 weeks. Therefore it's safe to say that this calamity of a draft pick will not be sniffed in any of my future leagues.

2. Dalvin Cook Is Pedestrian At-Best In The Vikings Backfield

I had such high hopes for this guy out of Florida State especially after the start he got off to last year before going down with a season-ending ACL tear. Cook's 2018 season leaves owners around the country wanting. Wherever you drafted him, you felt assured he would put up championship caliber numbers in a system with Kirk Cousins at the helm. *Not so fast my friend* Returning to game action after sitting Week 3 against the Bills with a nagging hamstring (cue Leonard Fournette), this presumed borderline RB1 gathered 20 yards on 10 touches averaging 2.0 a carry. As someone who watched this game, its reasonable to make the argument that since it was such a shootout Cook didn't really have a chance to get going. That may be right but every time this guy got the ball he was getting completely fucking blown up behind the line. Maybe it's a Vikings offensive line issue. Maybe it's because the Rams line is just that good. Your guess is as good as mine but one thing I do know is that Cook's rushing numbers are suffering this year. 48th most points among running backs is enough for me to sell this former Seminole.

3. Jared Goff Is Fucking It

Last year we saw Goff's potential on display within a lackluster offensive group surrounding him but this year we are on a whole new level. BUY BUY BUY this man after making the Vikings secondary look like a bunch of schoolgirls on that turf. 465 yards, 5 TD's, 39.3 PTS. This stat line alone makes me plug him in as my QB1 next week. Let's be honest, the Vikings secondary is no BIG 12 squad. These are proven, savvy veterans who know how to cover the field and Jared Goff just EMBARASSED them. Some of the throws he was making were like he was touched by the grace of God and told a bedtime story by Jim Nantz the night before. Simply unbelievable. If you are not ALL IN on this man come Week 5, you're just an ignorant piece of shit.

4. The Rams Have 3 Real Wideouts

Continuing on my praise of Sean McVay and this Los Angeles squad, it's easy to see that the Rams have 3 very capable wide receivers catching those saucy spirals from Goff. Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods, and Cooper Cupp are all putting up starting WR numbers this year as they are 10th, 15th, and 7th respectively among wide receivers. They combined for a mind-blowing 83.9 points last week. Do the math because that's almost 28 points a piece. This group is for real and if you have any of them on your roster, make sure you start 'em this week. You won't regret it.
