First it was sports. Then it was music and rankings. All followed by meteorology. And now, I would like to present to you... the first travel blog on the CBC site. So here's a quick summary of my Christmas break so far-
Going home Day 1: I started off my break by leaving Clemmy 3 hours after my last final. Stayed the night in NoVA with my grandparents and treated myself to a nice bottle of wine to polish off a somewhat successful finals week.
Going home Day 2: At 5:30pm, my flight from Dulles took off. I had three glasses of wine with my mushroom manicotti airplane dinner, watched Deadpool 2 and School of Rock, then proceeded to pass the fuck out.
Going home Day 3: Landed in Munich around 7:30am. Tried looking for the Starbucks in the airport, but had no luck. Facetimed my mom to tell her to bring me coffee to the airport when she picked me up, then boarded my flight to Naples at 10:30am. Landed in Naples around 12:15pm, got my luggage, found my mom, hugged her and cried (it was seven months since I last saw her so cut me some slack), got in the car, and drove 45 minutes home. Ate dinner, unpacked and repacked my suitcase, and went to bed at 9pm.
Strasbourg Day 1: Woke up at 8am to leave the house to go BACK to the airport where we proceeded to go to the VIP lounge for some free food and (4) mimosas before our 11am flight to Basel, Switzerland. Once landed, we took a train from Basel to Strasbourg, France to enjoy the Christmas markets.
ASIDE- you may be thinking, "these people really traveled 905 miles to go to some Christmas markets?" The answer is yes, yes we did.
Strasbourg Day 1 continued: We threw all our luggage into our hotel room and proceeded to go out into town. We went to the first batch of markets where I bought myself some mulled wine aka Vin Chaud aka Gluhwein and drank about 40 Euros worth over the course of the day, even though it had hella cinnamon in it. Broke out into hives, but boy was it worth it. I then had a nice ham and cheese crepe (maybe 2, judge me) for lunch and bought myself some nice Christmas gifts, because why give to others when you can give to yourself? We had a very nice dinner at Chez Yvonne followed by a crepe with strawberry jam and Nutella from another market stand for dessert.
Strasbourg Day 2: We went to the Cathedral of Notre Dame (the one in Strasbourg- I swear it's called that) to watch the Astrological Clock. It's this huge thing that had a 30 minute video played before the clock went off explaining how it worked and shit and honestly, whoever made that clock was a damn genius at the time because there was a lot of shit that went into making that thing. Watching it go (clap) off (clap) was actually amazing. 10/10 recommend. Lunch was another round of market food; I had a bratwurst and shared some cheesy potatoes with my mom. We went to Le Petit France where I stumbled across a little bar called Mi Casa es Tu Casa which had Spanish tapas, so of course we went inside. Had a nice, big Edelweiss beer and some croquettas de jamon y queso to top off the night.
December 19th, we got back on the train to Basel and got on the plane to go back to Naples. Overall, it was a super fun trip filled with nothing but alcohol and food, which is really the best vacation you can ask for, in my opinion.
I'll end this post here since it got a lil lengthy, so stay tuned to hear all about my trip to Venice when we get home on Christmas Eve.
